The whole is greater than the sum of its parts

Whether you operate a small business, large corporation or non-profit organization, you are not excluded from this age long concept - synergy. The word ’synergy’ stemmed from a Greek word ’synergos’ which means ‘working together.’ Synergy is created when two or more units interact effectively and efficently to create an added value beyond the sum of the individual values. Let’s look at how you can create synergy in your organization.

We will first look at what synergy is and then discuss the common traits of the synergistic executive who work as the catalyst. Here are the four fundamentals to prepare before we can successfully create synergistic organization:

1. Know-how: Understanding the benefits of synergy, management techniques and total quality service (TQS) techniques.
2. Talent: Brain management, creativity promotion and education and training.
3. Skills: - Management leadership, effective communication and decision-making.
4. Behavior: - mental constitution, confidence and professionalism

Know-how and talent will create ability, and proper skills and behavior will create vitality in the work force. The combination of ability and vitality is imperative to creating synergistic performance. We will discuss in detail on each of these fundamentals in later posts.

Sow a thought, reap an act.

Sow an act, reap a habit.

Sow a habit, reap a character.

Sow a character, reap a destiny.

Yoda once phrased this as a foreboding warning to young Vader:

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Fear is a thought, which if focused upon, leads to anger, which is an expression of the fear.

Repeated or constant anger results in hate, a habit that results in suffering since it imposes a negative toll on the body.

In Star Wars, young Vader’s hateful character eventually lead him to the dark side - all which stemmed from fear.

While in life, our destinies may not be as dramatic as Vader’s, it may still be as grand, especially to us who are the protagonist of our own life’s story. So how do we take this lesson and develop a desirable destiny?

For me, I have always desired a destiny of freedom, exploration, and experience. So I worked backwards.

1. Unique Homepage Visits

This will result from three main areas: Pay-Per-Click, SEO, and Affiliate Sites. Obviously, you want this to be a high number, and also very importantly, a number with strong growth.

a. Pay-Per-Click aka PPC

Vital statistics are Click Through Rate, Conversion Rate, Cost per Converison.

b. Search Engine Optimization aka SEO

Vital statistics are # of 1st page rankings, # of #1 keywords, # top 5 keywords, # inbound links, Google PageRank.

c. Affiliate Sites

# of Affiliates per Month (growth rate), $ generated from affiliates.

    Just as you should check your vital signs of pulse, cholesterol, and weight on a regular basis, you should check your company’s vital statistics on a regular basis, and recommend a new course of action should anything be over or under what it should be. This article will consider the Vital Financial Statistics, also considered the Chi flow (or bloodstream) of the company - Revenue, COGS, Expenses, and Net Profit.

1. Revenue ($)

    Everything that puts money into the bank as a result of a product or service being sold. Needless to say, if you aren’t putting money in the bank, nothing else matters. Marketing and sales most directly affect this vital number.
